I am a black man and I grew up I the south in the sixties and early seventies . I was blessed to be brought up in a home with if I could speak partial to the best parents someone could have. I am very thankful that I was brought up with christian principles and taught that every man in the eyes of God is the same regardless of his or her background, nationality or the color of their skin.
I feel that we as a people have been blessed in spike of the difficulties we have faced growing up and face today to have been born in this great country and enjoy the freedom it present to us. As many like myself when I was growing up I was called names, teased and shunned by classmates and certain people throughout the city in public places yet I still saw and knew that there were many others at home and around the world that had greater struggles that we had.
I grew up in a family of seven and my mother and father worked long hard hours to hours to provide for us and though we did not have as much as some others did we were thankful for what we had. We are all grown up now and are educated and have gone beyond where our parents had gone thanks to their effort and unwavering support.
I say all of this as a prelude to say that my parents did not go looking for a handout or for someone else to provide for them. They knew that as difficult as it might be that an opportunity was afforded them and their family by the simple fact of being born in this great country and not to seize it would be more than regretful.
Sorry to say that in the years that we in today that so many fail to see this and are always looking for excuses and someone else to blame for their choices and predicament. Right now we still live in a great county but some today are trying to change what our forefathers did to make our county what it is today.
Big government is not the answer to us going forward as a nation but rather a dereference. If my parents were able to accomplish what they did with seven children in the fifties and sixties how much more with as far as we have come today is there available for those who would put forth any effort.
